Edwin M. Leidholdt, Jr. PhD

Program Manager, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Health Physics Program

Dr. Leidholdt is a Program Manager in the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Health Physics Program. He has played a major role in the VHA in establishing national policies and training for radiation safety in diagnostic and interventional. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Medical Nuclear Physics and Diagnostic Radiological Physics. He holds three graduate degrees and has been engaged professionally in medical physics and medical health physics since 1983. 

EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, University of Virginia, 1983; Master of Applied Mathematics, University of Virginia, 1978; M.E. in Nuclear Engineering, University of Virginia, 1977; B.S. in Nuclear Engineering, University of Virginia, 1971. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Radiation Safety Officer and Technical Director of Nuclear Medicine at the VA Medical Center, Martinez, CA, 1983-1992; Radiation Safety Officer at San Francisco VA Medical Center 1992- Nov 1993; Radiation Safety Program Manager, VHA Western Region, Oct 1993-Aug 1996; Program Manager, Southwestern Service Area, National Health Physics Program, Aug 1996- present. Served as a surface line officer in the U.S. Navy from 1971 until 1975. 

ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS: Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology, University of California, Davis, 1991-present. Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology, University of California, Davis, 1984-1991. Adjunct Associate Professor of Radiology, University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio, 2005-present. 

PROFESSIONAL AND OTHER ACTIVITIES: Council Member, National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. Member, Society of Nuclear Medicine, Health Physics Society, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, American College of Radiology 

PUBLICATIONS: Co-author of six scientific papers and abstracts, one textbook chapter, and one textbook, now in its third edition.
